At Lakeland Care, we’re proud to have a dedicated team of carers who go above and beyond to help our clients live independently and comfortably in their own homes. In our new monthly blog series, Carer Spotlight, we’ll introduce you to the amazing people who make a difference in the lives of those in our community. Through these interviews, you’ll get a chance to learn more about the compassionate individuals who support our clients across Ulverston, Barrow-In-Furness, Millom, and the surrounding areas.
This month, meet Yasmin, one of our fabulous carers based in Barrow. She shares her experiences, what she loves most about the job, and more!
What does it mean to you to be a carer?
“It means I can help people live as normal a life as possible in their own home for as long as they can.”
Why/how did you get into caring?
“I started with health and social care at college, did work experience in a care home, and just loved it, so I got a job there.”
What is your favourite part of the job?
“Building trust with clients and knowing they rely on me to be there for them.”
Have you done anything extra to help your clients?
“I’ve taken a client out for drives and ice creams to break up his long days. Little things like that can make a big difference.”
Why do you like working for Lakeland Care?
“It’s a great company where we’re trusted to do our jobs. I really appreciate that.”
Advice for new carers?
“Don’t worry! You’ll be fine. And if you ever need help, I’m always here to offer advice.”
Fun fact about yourself?
“I once fell through a bus stop and ended up with a huge bruise on my bottom. Guess I’m a bit clumsy but always smiling!”
And if you could be any animal?
“A cat, because they’re independent like me and just as clumsy!”
