New Carer Spotlight: Meet Kristalene

At Lakeland Care, we’re always proud to have team members who bring such passion and commitment to their work. This month, we’re excited to spotlight Kristalene, one of our newest carers, whose journey to the healthcare field was a surprising yet life-changing decision!

Meet Kristalene! She shares her story, her favorite moments, and the passion that fuels her commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.

What made you want to join the Lakeland Care team? Was this always the plan, or did life take you in a surprising direction?

It was actually a surprising for me considering I’ve never done care work. I’ve worked as a marketing admin, customer service representative and a taekwondo instructor. Who would’ve thought I’d be in the field of healthcare. And now, I consider it as one of the best life-changing decision I made. I’m honoured to be part of Lakeland.

What’s been the best part of being part of the team so far? Any stand-out moments?

Best part of being part of the team is being able to be of help to others. Making sure that they still get to do things on their own safely and getting to know English culture more. It’s give and take to be honest. I learn new things every day. Some are informative and helpful with work, some are very funny. Haha!

Have you had a funny, heartwarming, or memorable moment “on the patch” that’s stuck with you?

Memorable moment that stuck with me is, I learned to eat fish and chips from a client that eats it every Friday dinner time. He’s an angel now. And every time I eat it, it reminds me of him. He’s my first client when I first started. Gave the warmest hug. Always asked how’s the weather outside.

“Who would’ve thought I’d be in the field of healthcare? And now, I consider it as one of the best, life-changing decisions I’ve made. I’m honored to be part of Lakeland”.

What’s your secret trick for putting a smile on someone’s face during your day?

I don’t know to be honest, I think I’m just being genuinely myself most of the time. Haha. Kidding aside, I’ve always put in my head “Be the light you needed in your darkest day”.

If you had to sum up your job in three words, what would they be—and why?

Hard. Meaningful. Rewarding.
Don’t get me wrong, all jobs are hard. Hard, in a way that you have to keep showing up no matter what you feel, that’s being responsible and that’s life. Some people only get to see you the entire day, and you have to be there for them, no matter what. Meaningful, because it changed me a lot as a person. I’m guilty of taking things for granted and this job made me realize a lot of things that I should cherish. Rewarding, because along the way I learned a lot of things that will make me thrive and be better. It’s rewarding in so many ways I can’t even point out all of them.

When you’re not out and about, how do you unwind or have a bit of fun? Any guilty pleasures?

Retail therapy and travelling to new places. 🙂
